Lois Scott

Lois Scott I have had the privilege of being a member of The Moncton Hospital (TMH) family and affiliated organizations for over 50 years, as a nursing student, employee, Moncton Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae member and Friends’ Board Director. From the time I stepped through the doors, I quickly learned that the hospital’s leaders and staff placed a high value on delivering excellent clinical care.

During my years as Emergency Department Nurse Manager and particularly since becoming a Director of the Friends, I have become very aware of the important impact the Friends and its donors have on enhancing the nature and scope of the Hospital’s services. Amongst others, these include the acquisition of complex medical-surgical technologies that allow people from the Greater Moncton area to avoid being transferred to another location to receive specialized health care; new or renovated infrastructure that provides patients and staff with more comfortable and therapeutic environments; and research and continuing education opportunities for staff.

During the first half of my career at TMH, my experiences and mentors gave me the confidence to take on new challenges. I accepted a position with the NB Department of Health; and, following that with two large international private sector companies, Clinidata & McKesson. I left TMH but took the lessons and values I had learned with me, as I served as one of the global pioneers of telehealth services for over 20 years.

I had the privilege of serving on many local to international professional organizations, not-for-profit boards, agencies, and crown corporations representing many different sectors, including health care, economic development, post-secondary education, and innovation. While I have received recognition, including being inducted into the Order of NB in 2019, I am fully aware that I was only one of the people on the teams who contributed to the work being recognized. Similarly, I appreciate that the very generous donors who contribute to the Friends Foundation are the most important clogs in our wheel - our Board’s role is provide ethical leadership, organizational oversight and sound stewardship of the gifts received.
