Creating an Endowment: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

An endowment gift to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation provides income year after year for specific needs within the hospital. When a donor makes a gift to an endowment fund, the gift is invested with prudence. The endowment produces income each year and a percentage of the annual income from the endowment fund is then used to support the purchase of equipment, staff training, and/or special projects.

Gifts to the endowment can be earmarked for use in a certain manner or for a specific program or service area (called “specified gifts”), or their use can be left to the discretion of the foundation (“general gifts”). Each endowed fund will receive annual income from its invested capital.

Named Endowments

Endowments may be named after an individual, couple, family, group, corporation or business. A contribution of $25,000 or more is required to establish a named endowment. The gift may be in the form of a one-time cash gift, a pledge or other gift. A donor may designate the income from a named endowment for specified or general purposes. In order to create a named endowment, a “Named Endowment Agreement”, must be executed by the donor.

Specified Endowments

Specified Endowments are those that are directed for a special purpose within The Moncton Hospital. They may only be established with the approval of the Foundation. Those wishing to establish a specified endowment may do so by making a minimum payment of $10,000.
